The Keene State Men’s Basketball team defeated the University of Southern Maine in their first LEC match of the season on Saturday, Dec. 2 at Spaulding Gymnasium, with a final score of 94-80.
The Owls jumped out to a quick lead right from the opening tipoff, which they would not relinquish for the entirety of the game.
Leading by six halfway through the first half, junior guard Spencer Aronson and senior forward Alonzo Linton provided a spark off the bench, scoring three three pointers in under a minute. The lead continued to grow from there, eventually being a 53-35 halftime lead for the home team.
An 11-2 run to start the second half extended the lead to nearly 30 points. A late run from USM made the final score 94-80. Octavio Brito and Jeff Hunter were once again dominant for the Owls, combining for 45 points. With that performance, Hunter moved up to fifth all-time in Keene State scoring and second all-time in rebounds. Aronson improved his three-point shooting to 47.1% over the teams last five games. The team as a whole has now scored 10 or more three-pointers in five of their last seven.
The seventh-ranked Owls will finish the semester with four games in just seven days. The final and next home game will be Saturday, Dec. 9 against Tufts University at 7 p.m.
