Two goals in the first half is all the Owls needed to take down Worcester State.
Just minutes into the match, fifth-year Declan Coughlin stole the ball from the Lancers’ Manny Ramirez and sent a pass soaring up the field to first-year Cristian Correa, who found the back of the net. Correa gave the Owls a 1-0 lead just 4:34 into the game. Just minutes later, wanting more, Coughlin shot a pass through a defender’s legs, finding Correa, who once again launched the ball right past the Lancers goalie. Just 9:36 in, the Owls had a 2-0 lead. These were the only goals for the Owls tonight, and it was all they needed.
Following the Owls goals, the Lancers found a pair of shots for themselves. The first went wide but a second from Waseem Mahmoud was saved by junior goalkeeper Regan Racicot. 34 minutes into the match, the Lancers found their first goal of the night, scored by Taylor Gavaletz. Later they came back to try for another, yet Racicot made the save. That was the last shot either team took during the first half.
The second half saw the Lancers outshoot the Owls 8-7, but neither team found the net. At halftime, sophomore Eldin Husanovic went into the goal. He made two saves to help the Owls hold onto their 2-1 lead right until the end. Both teams finished with 14 shots, although KSC had seven on goal, compared to six from WSU.
