The Keene State women’s volleyball team celebrated their senior day on Saturday, Oct. 21 against the University of Southern Maine. Seniors Veronica Kroha, Reagan Fleming and Kelsey Harper were honored before the game.
The Owls won the match 3-0, improving their record to 9-13.
Keene State came into the game after dropping their previous four matches. At the start of the first set, it looked as though the streak might hit five after giving up multiple-point leads three separate times. A much-needed 6-0 run pulled them out of that hole and gave them a 25-19 first set victory.
The Owls carried that momentum into the second set and jumped out to a 16-8 lead and looked well in command. The Huskies, however, woke up and responded with a 9-1 run of their own to tie it at 17. A back-and-forth battle eventually ended with four straight points by Keene State. Fleming sealed the set with an ace to win it 25-22.
The final set was the Owls who led the whole way. Keene State took a 20-8 lead before the Huskies put up some fight. In the end, it wasn’t enough, and the Owls completed the sweep with a 25-16 set win. Keene State was led by junior Molly Wetherbee who posted 10 kills and Kroha with nine kills.
The Owls will wrap up their home regular season schedule in the coming week when they play Curry College on Tuesday, Oct. 24 and Wheaton College on Thursday, Oct. 26.
