The Social Activities Council (SAC) hosted Retro Revolution, a game night, open to all students in the L.P Young Student Center on Friday, Sept. 29.
According to Jasmine Gleason, a SAC coordinator for the event, the night consisted of activities split between the flag room and the Night Owl Cafe (NOC). The flag room had four main attractions: a Ultimate Mario Bros arcade machine, a Dance Dance Revolution game, a classic arcade machine with over 60 games and various board games spread throughout the room.
Caesar Barboa, a SAC general member and event attendee, said the night “was amazing” and “fun.” Barboa said she played a variety of the games and that the Mario Arcade Machine was her favorite, describing it as a “stunt.”
While the Night Owl Cafe only had one game, Wheel of Fortune, Gleason noted that it drew “heavy involvement.” She said that fellow coordinator Christopher Grayley was in charge of running the NOC section of the event. Matt Wolseley, a student who attended the event, said the night was indeed fun, noting that Wheel of Fortune was his favorite game of the night. He said that he learned about the event from his “fraternity brothers” who were members of SAC.
Asides from the games, Gleason said that food and drink were provided.
“People are really enjoying the catering…We [had] blueberry lemonade and a bunch of different kinds of dips,” she said. These were coupled along with the free popcorn and drinks given out by the NOC.
Overall, Gleason said she was satisfied with the event saying that, while slow, they had “a good turnout.” She noted the night’s heavy rainfall as a likely reason why turnout might have been slower than they expected. Even though turnout might not have been as large as they hoped, she noted the engagement as a success.
Gleason said that SAC hopes to plan and carry out an event similar to this in future, having already improved upon the SAC game night held two years prior that was constricted to the Mabel Brown Room.
When asked if she thinks that game night should be repeated in the future, Barboa said, “Absolutely. When I’m talking with my friends, we wish there was more to do on campus… and that’s [SAC’s] goal.”
