Senior midfielder Mindy St. Marie will play in her final season with Keene State women’s lacrosse starting in one week with the season opener coming on Feb. 28.
St. Marie is coming off a very successful junior season where she finished 17th in the Little East Conference (LEC) in individual points, tallying 39 on the season. She also finished 2021-22 tied for second place on the season in goals with 27. On top of her accomplishments with the program so far, she was also named co-captain of Keene State women’s lacrosse in the past year with teammates Haile Ratajack, Elle Lyons and Jackie DeAngelis.
St. Marie’s role as captain will be important in a year with many young players entering the program. The Owls are set to feature nine players in their first season with the team. “We have a really young team,” said St. Marie. “I want everyone to have fun but also to push themselves for the two hours we have each day… We need a good balance of strictness and easiness.”
Despite all she has accomplished and the success she’s seen within the LEC, she isn’t done with what she wants to accomplish as an Owl. “A lot of it is teamwork. All those points couldn’t have been scored without my teammates.” she said. “Working as a whole, pushing myself and holding myself accountable and just playing smart and being better is big.”
Entering her senior season, St. Marie looked back on the good times she’s had with Keene State lacrosse. “My sophomore year in our game against University of Southern Maine we won 11-9, that was a really good day.” she said. “Whenever we play Eastern Connecticut, that’s always a really exciting game, really fun and good for team bonding.”
In her final season, St. Marie hopes the Owls can win the LEC Championship and looks forward to being with her teammates and friends, also enjoying her final games in her Keene State career.
