The Keene State College volleyball team overpowered Plymouth State with a win of 3-0 in their April 17 game.

The Keene State Owls were flying high Saturday afternoon after winning their second game in a row with a sweeping score of 3-0, after their previous match against Castleton just two days prior.

In the Little East Conference home game, the Owls started out strong with a win of 25-16 in the first set. Keene State was an impenetrable force, only falling behind Plymouth four times throughout the three sets. The team stayed in the lead nearly the entire game, leaving Plymouth with a few one or two-point leads throughout the second and third set.

Plymouth led the second set 1-0 and then again at 5-3, but couldn’t come back from there. Keene State won again at 25-14, creating an even greater margin than in the first game.

In the third and final set, the Owls followed a similar pattern to their second set, losing the lead to the Panthers in the beginning at 2-0 and 3-2. But, similarly to the second set, they quickly bounced back and left Plymouth in the dust with a final score of 25-19.

The KSC volleyball team will be playing again in their final spring match on Thursday, April 22 at 6 p.m. at UMass Dartmouth.

Rachel is a junior at Keene State College and is majoring in multimedia journalism with a minor in anthropology. She started working with The Equinox at the beginning of the Spring 2020 semester as a “late night reader” for her Media Production class with The Equinox’s own Faculty Advisor Rodger Martin. Despite a not-so-normal first semester working with The Equinox because of the COVID-19 pandemic disruption, she wanted to continue editing and applied for the Copy Editor position. Fun Fact: Rachel was born on March 17, 2000 on Saint Patrick’s Day! She was born and raised in Cumberland, Maine with her two parents and four siblings. She is the fourth in line out of five children, being the youngest with her twin brother Caleb (one minute older than him, to be precise). At her mother’s house in Pineville, North Carolina she has two small dogs: Pippin (M/11/Maltese/Pekingese) and Luna (F/10/Maltese/Pekingese/Shih Tzu/Toy Poodle) and two cats: JoJo (F/1) and Toph (F/1). At her father’s house in West Paris, Maine she has one dog: Peaches (F/1/Golden Retriever) and two cats: Eddie (M/1) and Nisku (F/2). Rachel went to Greely High School and graduated in Spring 2018. In her time there she participated in sports and the arts alike. She ran track and played volleyball in her first year of high school and continued with volleyball throughout the rest of her high school career, eventually landing a spot as middle hitter on the varsity team for her sophomore, junior and senior year. Rachel grew up in a very musical household and has been singing all her life. She did musical theater all throughout middle and high school and also sang in the school choir. In her sophomore year of high school she got into her high school’s advanced choir group called the Madrigals. Although she does not play volleyball at Keene State, she moved forward with her passion in singing by auditioning for Keene State’s only a cappella group: Chock Full O’ Notes (CFON) in her first semester at KSC. Since joining the group she has had multiple solos over the course of her two years and can’t wait to continue singing with her favorite group for the remainder of her time at Keene. After graduation, Rachel hopes to move out to Los Angeles, California and live with her older sister Abigail, where she works as a 3D scheduler at a post production company. She plans to apply for a job as an assistant scheduler under her sister.
