As of April 15, COVID cases around the Keene area have been rising.
Construction Clerk of the Works Colin Burdick said that there has been an increase in the number of COVID cases across the board. “The city and Cheshire County went up to 16 [positive cases],” Burdick said.
Burdick explained that the total number of cases have risen “substantially,” and it appears that this is following a trend throughout the state.
A concern that Burdick had was that the uptick in cases could be due to large groups gathering. “We’ve heard that there were some parties gathering with people who are infected,” Burdick explained. As a result of these gatherings, there was a rise in quarantine cases as well. Burdick said that this is a problem. “We’ve actually been seeing quarantine cases turning positive, which we didn’t see very much at all last semester,” Burdick said.
Although there have been more cases around campus and the city, Burdick explained that students are doing a great job at attending weekly testing. “We had great compliance last week, 97% compliance,” Burdick said. “We are still doing great as we are still open.”
Overall, Burdick explained that he is not “overly concerned” because positive cases are rising overall across the state.
