The Keene State Men’s Basketball team tipped off the first round of LEC playoffs on Feb. 23 versus Plymouth State University. The owls picked up an 84-78 win over the panthers.

First year player Ty Nichols put the owls on the board in the first three seconds of the game, giving the owls a 2-0 lead.

The panthers weren’t far behind when Ernie Johnson made a three-point jump shot putting them on the board 3-2.

The panthers continued to put up points with two free throws made by Jack Preston giving them the lead of 5-2.

Matt Ozzella brought the owls back with a layup and Nate Stitchell brought the owls into the lead with a three-point jump shot.

Stitchell led the owls with 23 points overall, two rebounds, one assist, and five steals.

Nichols brought home eight points in the first half and three in the second, for a total of 11 point.  Whereas Tre’ Tipton scored 10 points and Jaquel Edwards made 16.

Nate Howard had eight rebounds , two assists and two points.

Matt Ozzella made five out of the eight free throws in the duration of the game. Ozzella made a total of 11 points, four assists and eight rebounds.

With the second half coming to an end Ozzella made one of the two last free throws finishing out the game.

With a close back and forth battle throughout the entire game the owls held their own taking home the win. The owls will continue on in the LEC playoffs Saturday Feb. 27 at Eastern Connecticut University.
