This past Saturday evening, in the Mabel Brown Room, Keene State College’s Sigma Pi Fraternity hosted the first Lip Sync Battle the college has ever had.
Students who chose to perform in this event were told to pick two songs that they felt most comfortable with.
KSC senior and Criminal Justice major Zach Dejesus is a member of the Sigma Pi Fraternity.
Dejesus said the fraternity was trying to come up with a way to fundraise and because he had been considering hosting a possible Lip Sync Battle earlier on this past summer, he went ahead and put it together.
“The biggest obstacle I’ve faced while putting together this event was definitely working to get it all done on time,” Dejesus said. He continued, “Today was probably the hardest part of it all. My brothers and I had to set everything up, get all prizes prepared to be raffled off and most importantly make sure that students, faculty and so forth were going to attend.”
KSC junior and Management major Dan Gendron is another brother of Sigma Pi. Gendron said that the event went as planned.

“It was awesome, we all kind of figured people would get a kick out of it and they did, it seemed like everyone was having a great time,” Gendron said.
With this, Gendron said it is hard to choose the highlight of the show because it was just that incredible. The individual acts were far beyond what he thought they would be.
KSC sophomore and Theatre and Communications major Dominique Pascoal was a particpant in the event.
Pascoal said that she saw the Lip Sync Battle being publicized at a table in the Young Student Center by the brothers of the Sigma Pi Fraternity, and it appealed to her instantly. Pascoal said she loves to sing, dance and perform and was ready to win the battle.
KSC senior and Journalism major Connor Smith, a second participant of Saturday evening’s event, said that he was actually a part of the Sigma Pi Fraternity.
Smith said he chose to “sing” a song written in Italian and a song by Queen because he’s known all the words to both since he was in sixth grade.
Smith then said that he wasn’t expecting the competition to be so tough and that Pascoal gave him a run for his money.
Pascoal said that she put her routine together in under ten minutes because, much like Smith’s situation, she had been very familiar with Under Pressure by Queen and Super Freak by Rick James for quite a while and didn’t need much practice.
“Queen and Rick James are basically my life, their music plays in the background of wherever I go,” Pascoal said.
Being the runner up, Smith said that Pascoal killed it and deserved the win. Dejesus said that it was a close call between Smith and Pascoal and a hard decision to make.
