Now that the semester is nearly halfway over, students are beginning to find themselves trying to prepare for tests and exams and write papers, which creates one stressed college student.
Fortunately, Keene State College has a variety of resources to help students decrease stress and learn better study habits.
Included in tuition to KSC is student access to ASPIRE (the tutoring center), the Mason Library, professors and classroom study guides.
KSC first-year Robin Chaney said that sometimes it’s hard to find the motivation to begin studying and that “once I start studying, I want it to be over.” Chaney also said she studies “in my dorm room or the library.”
The Mason Library is a great resource that many students don’t utilize to its fullest potential.
KSC sophomore Olivia Miller, who works at the information desk in the Mason Library, said that the library’s resources are incredibly helpful.
“We have multiple study rooms that you can either reserve or just go in if they’re not being used,” she said. Not only are there study rooms, but there is also the free printing, as well as “historic archives and journals that students use for research papers and history projects,” Miller said.
Also, if something happens to a student’s laptop, they can check out a laptop from the library instead.

One of the most helpful resources that Keene offers is ASPIRE, which is the tutoring center.
Beth Zinn, worker at the tutoring center said that ASPIRE is academic support for all students at Keene State.
However she continued, “Students come to us with good news and bad news and therefore aspire is not just for academic help, it is also a source of conversation where students share the academic success. of the week.”
While ASPIRE helps students find tutors, Beth said that students cannot “walk in the week before exams and say I need help.” That’s not how it works.
Zinn stated that when a student first walks into ASPIRE they have to have a meeting to talk to them about what exactly they need help with, and after a few days ASPIRE will match them up with a tutor. Although, however often you meet with the tutor is entirely up to the student.
“Most students meet once a week, others meet as needed” Zinn said.
There is an ASPIRE tutor for most classes and, once you sign up once, it becomes significantly easier to obtain a tutor in future semesters.
Professors at Keene set up times to meet with students if necessary, the professors set up office hours in which students come in and ask questions about whatever is needed.
College can be stressful, but the best thing you can do is to find your study niche, whether it be in your dorm, in groups, by yourself, with flash cards or notes. Chaney said that she “studies better when she’s alone with no distractions” and that since she’s been at KSC her study habits have “improved along with her grades.”
Keene is an environment in which students of all kinds can flourish and be successful. It just takes time and perseverance.
