Student Assembly met in the Mountain View Room on Tuesday, Oct. 7 to meet with student organizations and conduct business.
Robert Graham addressed the Student Assembly requesting $9,604.97 from the Contingency Account to purchase supplies for Pumpkin Lobotomy. The funds will cover the purchase of 1,800 pumpkins, an inflatable attraction called Bungee Challenge, tables for the event and pumpkin stress balls to give away. The funds were approved by the Student Assembly unanimously.
The Dance Team requested a transfer of funds for professional services while they compete in a national competition in January. The $2,700 transfer will pay for a professional choreographer to help them with their routine. The assembly approved the transfer unanimously.
The assembly also approved a $2,000 funds transfer for The Equinox. The transfer will pay for part-time hourly payments for professional services.
Passion Writers, a new student organization, also approached the assembly with their constitution requests. Julia Janson, President of Passion Writers, explained that the club is for students who enjoy writing. “It’s a group that puts together students who enjoy writing,” Janson said.
JFollowing student organizational business, the Student Assembly moved on to elections. Mallory Pearce ran unopposed for Student Body Vice President. Pearce was formerly President of the Class of 2017. When asked why she ran for Student Body Vice President, Pearce said, “It’s a position that really needs to be filled in order for things to change at the school. So I chose to run and resigned as president [of the class of 2017].”
“This is a new position for me still. I still need to learn the ropes of everything, but once I get there I will definitely have some plans of action,” added Pearce.
Speaker of Student Assembly, Caitlin Licence, said “We have a tabling event this Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.” The event is an opportunity for students to approach the Student Assembly and share any concerns or comments.
