Samantha “Sami” Smith is a forward on the Keene State College field hockey team and is leading her team to victories.
Smith, a sophomore from Merrimack, N.H. has been a continuous contributing player for the Owls this season.
Recently, Smith netted two goals in a five-to-two match up against Castleton State College.
She also had two assists and one goal against Eastern Connecticut.
Smith was recently named offensive player of the week by the LEC [Little East Conference].
Although Smith scored more goals last year, Smith said her confidence is much higher this year.
“After freshman year you’re still unsure of yourself, unsure of the players, but wow — after spring ball there was a lot more chemistry between players and once you have chemistry you feel so much better,” Smith said.
Part of having chemistry is being able to get along with teammates.
Smith said she is lucky because all of her best friends are on the team.
“It makes practice better, games better; it’s just great having all your friends there,” Smith said.
Currently Smith lives with one teammate, but plans to live with four of them next year.
