Marissa Lemoine is captain of the Keene State College Field Hockey team and is leading by example, especially in her the team’s game against Worcester State on Saturday Oct. 11.
Lemoine netted two goals, one only 53 seconds after the whistle blew for the start of the game.

The next goal came towards the end of the first half and was assisted by Melissa Habelow.
“The second goal was sick,” Lemoine said. Even though Lemoine is in her last year as an Owl, it’s her first year as captain.
Lemoine is one of three seniors and couldn’t be more proud of all the girls on her team. “They are just a great group of girls, it’s nice to know someone has your back,” Lemoine said
After four years of playing on the Owl Athletic home field, Lemoine said the hardest thing to adjust to was the turf field.
“In high school I never played on turf, maybe once in a while for a playoff game but that’s it. I was really nervous — everything is different on turf. The way the ball dribbles is different and just the way everything moves,” Lemoine said. Lemoine’s hometown is Berlin, N.H., a small town close to Mt. Washington, almost a three hour drive from KSC.
The move was hard for Lemoine who really values being with her family, especially her younger brother who is being deployed soon.
“I go home almost every weekend, just to spend time with my family and my brother,” Lemoine said.
Her family-oriented style is what makes her a great leader for the Owls field hockey team and this weeks Equinox athlete of the week.

She resides in a small town that no one knows of but decided back in the elementary years that she would do all she could to play the game as long as she could. To the little ones that she has instructed in her summer camps. Always believe in ur dreams. Work hard, play hard, and always believe in your dreams. Proud of my number four.
