American classics, foreign films, dramas and romantic comedies are just a few of the genres of movies available for viewing at the Night Owl Café [NOC]. These movies are often shown before they are released on DVD. “The Fault in Our Stars” played at the NOC 13 days before its release on DVD, set for Sept. 16, 2014, according to DVDs Release Dates’ website.
Kelsey Perrault, who is going into her second year of working at the NOC stated that many people come to the movie nights. “I would say there is normally a good amount; thirty or forty people,” Perrault said.
One frequent-attendee is Keene State senior, Dan Jean. Jean said he would recommend that people go to the movies. “They are a really good time, it’s a nice relaxing thing to do. I would definitely recommend it.” Jean said.
Jean stated that he was not at the first movie night of the semester. However, Jean added that he has seen “The Fault in Our Stars” in theatres. “I cried like a baby… There was a part in the movie where I couldn’t hear what was going on over the sound of people crying,” Jean said.
The movies shown at the NOC have many accolades. “The Fault in Our Stars” has ten awards, including Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie: Drama and the Young Hollywood Award for Favorite Flick.
Jean continued that he is going to attend a lot of future movie nights.
“If they keep showing good movies I think I’ll just keep on going to them. So I will probably go the rest of the time,” Jean said.
Some of the films shown are award-winning movies. Other movies displayed on the large projector are “Anchorman Two: The Legend Continues,” “The Wolf of Wall Street” and “Lone Survivor.”
Employees of the NOC said they enjoy working during the movie nights.
Olivia Teixeira said she likes watching the movies when she isn’t serving the free soda or making the free popcorn.
Perrault also said she loves working for the NOC.
“We have great employees,” Perrault said.
The NOC staff comes together to participate in bonding events. Perrault said the staff has done bowling nights and has a winter party, “We have get-togethers all the time.”
Teixeira said the NOC is a good place to have a job. People interested in working for the NOC should visit the information desk on the first floor of the Lloyd P. Young Student Center.
The NOC is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. as well as 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. The weekend hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
