The Fall Senior Pub Crawl hit the bars of Keene Sunday, November 10. Four hundred and sixty five Keene State College seniors and seven local bars; Cobblestone, The Pour House, Scores, Kilkenny Pub, Lab n’ Lager, Penuche’s Ale House and McCue’s took part in the event.
Some bars offered deals to students wearing Pub Crawl team T-shirts. Each team had about an hour at each bar to sit and enjoy their favorite drinks with new and old friends.
KSC senior Sarah Comeau, who helped organize the event said Keene Police officers were supportive. “They [KPD] are usually okay with idea of a pub crawl. They just like to meet with students and bar owners to make sure everyone is on the same page.”
KPD also increased foot patrols and made an effort to have a presence. “We had a little bit larger of a presence, but it was primarily the detail officers patrolling” said KPD Lieutenant Steven Tenney. Things seemed to be relatively quiet for the police.
“The only incidents that might have been related to the pub crawl were a few noise complaints when people were switching bars, but other than that it was very uneventful,” Tenney continued.
Senior Sarina Kauffman agreed, “To be perfectly honest, I’ve become less and less of a drinker in terms of going out and partying, but to my greatest surprise, today has been incredible. I’m enjoying meeting new people and enjoying senior year.”
Students’ favorite bars from the night varied. Senior Greg Baldwin said, ”I’m torn between Penuche’s and Lab because the atmosphere was great at both, and the prices are hard to beat.” Some students did run into trouble at their favorite watering holes and had to be kicked out. But Comeau said, “A few students got kicked out of bars but were very cool and understanding which is good, there weren’t any major issues.” KPD also increased foot patrols and made an effort to have a presence.
Senior Dan Aune said, “It’s good to get to go out with a well determined group of people who you know and love; I’ve been having a great time.”
