“Find Me” by Rosie O’Donnell is a passionate, dark, chilling and absorbing memoir.
This book by one of the most well-known and loved comedians in America shows readers a side of herself so raw and intense you will never look at her the same way again. The novel is about O’Donnell’s relationship with a mysterious girl named Stacy whom she speaks with over the phone. Stacy is an underage rape victim, who is also pregnant, who contacts Rosie through a non-profit adoption agency, the “comedian funds.”
This friendship brings out memories of O’Donnell’s own childhood and the loss of her mother to cancer. The book gives an intriguing insight into O’Donnell’s world as she weaves a story of loss and healing.
However, nothing is as it seems. O’Donnell’s friends find Stacy an unsettling enigma and when very strange events take place, O’Donnell starts questioning her relationship with Stacy and ponders if all is as it seems.
I love this story for its truth and dark themes. It gives you an interesting look at all the darker, complex emotions people like to hide from and eventually have to face. This book made me love O’Donnell even more and proves to skeptics that celebrities are human, and that they have pain and hope. Hope is laced in this story. In the dark, there is light.
The Good:
Beautiful imagery and great descriptions. Rosie has a very good sense of story and doesn’t hold herself back from telling the truth. It is a book that makes you ask questions and brings out well-executed conclusions.
The Bad:
Nothing. But I would of liked to here more of Rosie’s stories with her own kids and moments with her mother. They were beautiful and heartfelt.
