Recently on campus, a few changes have been made to the Mason Library.

Multiple chairs and computers have been moved onto the second floor from Rhodes in order to make room for simulation beds for nursing majors. In addition to this, the journals have been taken out to make more room for students to work.

Personally, I believe expanding the area for students to work will be incredibly beneficial to many.

Oftentimes, I have found that upon arrival at the library, especially during busy times such as finals week, it is next to impossible to find space to work. More room for students will only encourage more people to go.

Many agree that studying and schoolwork is much easier done in an environment such as the library.

The Mason Library at Keene State College now makes room for more space and less journals.

There are fewer distractions and it is much quieter than other areas on campus, such as the L.P. Young Student Center or even in the residential halls.

This is why the library can be so packed  at times. Making more room for students to work individually is a huge plus of these renovations.

In addition to individual work, many groups working on projects together often meet in the library. It is the easiest place to do so.

However, many times there is nowhere for these groups to sit down together and work. With moving everything around, more space is now available for these students.

This can make getting group work and projects done much easier and less of a stress on students.

It is time to face the fact that technology has taken over many of the print resources we once depended on. So much can be done with computers that less and less people are finding a need to use these options, such as the journals.

This is the main problem the library faces while working on ways to benefit the student population as a whole.

I know that I personally use computers for almost everything school-related. It is just very easy and convenient for me, along with many others who do the same.

Technology provides us with an entire world of information, condensed into something as small as a computer.

This saves time and space, allowing students to complete tasks with more efficiency, giving them more room to do it.

It is important that we keep up with technology and are provided with these tools to complete assignments and get work done.

The library’s latest attempts to ensure we are able to utilize these tools as well as have more workspace available are very beneficial to anyone using the library.
