With a well rounded performance at the New England Open Championships this week’s Athlete of the Week is Janel Haggerty of the KSC Women’s Track and Field Team.
The senior finished third in the pentathlon at the championships this past weekend. She tallied a total of 3,433 points in the five-event competition. Haggerty now ranks second among NCAA Division III pentathletes.
She placed sixth in the long jump, fourth in the 60 meter hurdles, ninth in shot put, third in high jump, and fourth in the 800 meter run. She was also named the Little East Conference Field Athlete of the Week for her top finishes.

Completing his athletics career as an Owl, the first runner-up this week is senior Ryan Martin.
Martin led KSC to the LEC tournament finals with his strong offensive play. Martin had 23 points and four rebounds in KSC’s victory over Eastern Connecticut State in the conference semi-finals. He then had a game-high 17 points in the team’s 60-53 lose to Rhode Island College in the tournament finals.

The second runner-up this week is distance runner Ryan Widzgowski. The junior finished seventh in the mile at the New England Open Championships.
Widzgowski is currently ranked eighth in the one mile run among Division III athletes.
