To The Editor:
Today my roommate came home with a copy of The Equinox. I do not usually read it but today it caught my eye. A 3×5 picture of a Keene State alumnus who has recently been arrested for trying to catch a package in the mail filled with hash.
It is obviously news worthy but not necessary to totally throw someone under the bus like this. If you have ever met Jordan Reynolds which many people have because of his personable and outgoing attitude you know he is not a criminal, but by posting his mugshot with a head line reading “20 pounds of hash land Alumnus in jail” is a defecation on his reputation, morality, and future.
The headline and picture is above the crease which catches anyone’s eye instantly. Everyone wants to read about how someone just got in trouble for a non-violent drug crime.
Not only are you miss representing him, but also his family. It is simply sad to see how media sources can totally ruin someone’s reputation. It totally undermines the real problems in this town, and within the student population.
The Gun story truly ads and almost illustrates and frames him as a criminal by placing images of guns directly above his head. It is subtle message but very powerful when looking at his mugshot. He was a NON-VIOLENT offender blown up because of the amount of hash.
Hopefully you will think of this before defacing one of our own graduates. His degree will only be a shadow by his picture and “crime” and the way he has been portrayed in the media in the past two weeks.
