Recently, The Huffington Post published a list of what it considered to be “socially awkward colleges.” The list compiled all of the colleges that Huffington Post believed to be accepting of students who might consider themselves to be “socially awkward.”
Keene State College appeared as number 15 out of 45 colleges, a respectable amount for a little known, small public college.

While what constitutes a socially awkward student is never fully explained, it is clear that being called a school that is accepting of socially awkward students is supposed to be a massive compliment to the administration and the student body. The Huffington Post called schools that made the list places where “students can truly come into their own.”
This speaks volumes about the Keene State community, and we should feel proud of ourselves for making a list like this. As a school we have worked hard to make sure students with diverse interests have places and spaces to meet people and socialize in ways they are comfortable.
Our wide array of clubs and activities, ranging from athletic to academic and purely for fun attract students from every walk of life. There is a place for everyone at Keene State, regardless of their social preferences.
Keene should take this ranking on the list as a sign that Keene is doing the right thing by all of its students. It is not only welcoming to average college students, who enjoy traditional college activities but it is also a place where students who might not be interested in traditional college social activities can find the same comfort and entertainment value without having to feel uncomfortable.
Hopefully, students who are socially awkward continue to come to Keene State College, where they will be welcomed and given the opportunity to come into their own.
