Hungry hungry budget cuts jeopardize KSC

New Hampshire state legislation has been recently spicy, to say the least. It seems that nearly every week another controversial bill slips into and gets passed around the House, and with each The Equinox has been called upon to educate. We have done our best to do so as well, hoping, above all else, to contribute to the protection of our student life, faculty rights, and academic legitimacy. House Bill 176 called into question a New Hampshire student’s right to vote, while House Bill 330 sought to allow the carrying of firearms on campus. We responded in the only way we could, by presenting the pertinent information and featuring the ever-contrasting arguments. With House Bill 2 now resting in the state legislature’s lap, however, it has become more imperative than ever, regardless of any shouts of redundancy and feelings of Déjà vu, for The Equinox to enter into the discussion.

The discussion too, relative to past legislation debates, is a fairly straightforward one: House Bill 2 is a budget bill, designed to reassess the funding fistfuls that the New Hampshire state government dolls out to its many constituencies. The University System of New Hampshire, though one of the state’s largest and most publicly visible institutions, is on tap for 45 percent budget cut in 2012, from $100 million to $55 million per year. Students’ fees will rise, college services, from the Counseling Center to Financial Aid, will diminish, and the quality of academic and student life at KSC will be, in an understatement, seriously jeopardized. This is a jaw-slackening cut, it is a tearing down of this state’s economic fundamentals, it will demand a restructuring of New Hampshire’s entire higher-education skeleton, and it is an absolute reality.

To take up opposition against this bill, though noble, is not the point. Not only has the time long passed for that, but we are students and thus the argument would seem self-serving and predictable. We must now engage in an action entirely different than that of the voting, gun, and union protests of the past several weeks. We must act in the interest of preservation. We must act to preserve the college we know, sometimes love and sometimes hate. To do this two things have to happen — there is no alternative, there is not easy way out — students must speak and the college must listen. With KSC’s funding to be cut nearly in half, it will be necessary to think and re-think the spending of each and every dollar. Students must include themselves and be included in every fiscal decision the college makes. They must be asked what is wanted and what is needed and not just for the sake of asking, but instead for the sake of actual, valued, scale-tipping input. Before future 5 million dollar Alumni Centers are constructed, with the possible assistance of student fees, no less, the student and faculty bodies must be placed at the forefront of the decision making process because soon, with half as much to go around, the preservation, and progression, of KSC will unquestionably depend on it.

  19. It is best to participate in a contest for probably the greatest blogs on the web. I will recommend this website!

  20. Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

  21. I think comedianthat is among thedebt relief most important information for me. And i am happy studying your article. However want to observation on few normal issues, The website style is perfect, the articles is truly nice :D. Excellent job, cheers.

  22. Sorry for the huge review, but I’m really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it’s the right choice for you.

  23. We are a group comedianof volunteers and starting a brand new scheme in our community. Your web site provided us with helpful info to paintings on. You’ve done an impressive task and our entire group shall be thankful to you.

  24. You are my aspiration, I have few blogs and infrequently run out from post :). “‘Tis the most tender part of love, each other to forgive.” by John Sheffield.

  25. Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

  26. I’m all over this because of this write-up, Simply put i suppose this web site wants a great deal more consideration. I’ll probably be again to find out rather more, appreciate your that info.

  27. Many thanks for taking time to write this article. It is been very useful. It could not have arrive at a far better time for me!

  28. I admire the beneficial info you provide in your articles. I will bookmark your blog site and also have my youngsters test up right here often. I’m very sure they’ll find out lots of new stuff here than anyone else!

  29. The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

  30. This site site includes many worthwhile info on it! Thank you sharing it along with me.

  31. Today, I went to the beach with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone!

  32. The form that you just write allow it to be really trouble-free to see. And the design you employ, wow. Its a very good combination. That i’m wondering is there a name in the template you have?

  33. This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

  34. Thank you for another vital article. Where else could anyone get that form of info in this kind of a full way of writing? I have a presentation incoming week, and I am around the lookout for this kind of information.

  35. That is my 1st time i check out right here. I identified so many entertaining stuff within your blog, particularly its discussion. Through the tons of comments on your articles, I guess I am not the just one possessing each of the satisfaction right here! Hold up the great operate.
