Finally, after waiting two years, it’s here and ready to become your iPod’s new best friend. Britney Spears released her seventh album March 28 and is just waiting for it’s top spot on the Billboard charts.
Femme Fatale is not only jaw dropping, but a complete 180 to the Spears we grew up with. Regardless of how many pieces her personal life has been or is in at this moment, she puts it all aside and expresses it all in her new album.
The album consists of 16 tracks that are all different, and each hypes you up with a lot of energy. Previous albums such as Baby One More Time and Circus reveal a strictly pop sound, but Femme Fatale is a mix of sounds that we have never seen from her before.
There’s no other way to describe the sound of this album but that it has A very upbeat mix with pop and techno sounds. When her first single of Femme Fatale (“Hold it Against Me”) was first released, it opened a lot of eyes and ears.
Hearing this for the first time at a bar had us all asking “Is that Britney Spears?” My friends and I were all ecstatic that one of our idols growing up was back to show us that it doesn’t matter if she is approaching 30-years- old, she’s still got it.
Here we are four weeks later and I am still not sick of “Hold it Against Me.” However, if I could pick a song that expresses her talent and the uniqueness of the album, I would have to choose track three, “Inside Out.” This song discusses something every girl goes through in life, breakup sex. The song makes you want to hit the replay button and learn the lyrics.
Even though Spears is a very well known professional and does not write all of her songs, this one strikes out to me as having been her most personal one. We can’t help but think about which one of her crazy exes gets the trophy for this song. It happens to also be one of the slower ones on Femme Fatale as well.
On the weirder side of things, track number eight, “Big Fat Bass,” is probably one of the most different songs I have ever heard from Spears.
Even though the lyrics are weird and the composition of the song sounds a lot like house techno, there is still something about it that makes you want to just dance when you hear it.
Spears also collaborates with Will. I. Am from the Black Eyed Peas on this song.
Spears also works with one other artist on this album, Sabi, on track six, “Drop Dead Beautiful,” which sounds very similar to recording artist Ke$ha. Overall, I would give Femme Fatale 4 out of 4 stars. It’s upbeat sounds and meaningful lyrics really show us a new side of Spears that hopefully will keep coming out in the future.
This album truly makes you want to listen to it over and over again without getting sick of all 16 tracks.
